Meet Lesly Williams: The Artisan Behind Crescent Moon Journals
Hello everyone! My name is Lesly Williams, and it’s with immense excitement that I share my very first project as part of The Graphics Fairy design team. My journey into journal making began about two years ago after receiving a handmade journal as a Christmas gift. That thoughtful present sparked a passion that has since grown into Crescent Moon Journals, and I haven’t looked back.
The Foundation: Reimagining an Antique French Book Cover
For this particular journal, which I envisioned as a Secret Country Garden, I started with a truly unique foundation: an antique French book cover. While the cover itself held immense charm and character, its spine and the rest of the original book were, unfortunately, in poor condition. This presented a wonderful opportunity for creative restoration. I carefully deconstructed the cover and, using some beautiful vintage fabric, meticulously constructed and expanded a new spine. This not only provided structural integrity but also added a soft, tactile element that perfectly complemented the garden theme.
Entering the Garden: Inner Pages and Ephemera Layers
Opening the journal, the inside pastedown endpapers immediately set the tone. These exquisite papers are sourced from The Graphics Fairy’s popular French Blue and Cream Ephemera bundle. The soft hues and delicate patterns instantly evoked the feeling of being nestled inside a cozy country house, gazing out onto the lush garden that awaited on the following pages. This powerful visual narrative meant that I chose not to embellish this particular page layout further, allowing its inherent beauty to speak for itself. Adjacent to this, the right-hand page draws from The Graphics Fairy’s Chateau Life bundle, adding another layer of antique elegance.
Throughout the entirety of this journal, you’ll discover a rich tapestry woven from various Graphics Fairy bundles, thoughtfully combined with genuine antique ephemera. This blend of carefully curated digital images and authentic historical fragments creates a unique depth and story on every page, inviting the viewer to linger and explore.
On this delightful spread, I’ve incorporated a vibrant printable from The Graphics Fairy’s Vibrant Birds bundle, nestled within a charming stitched heart pocket. The delicate stitching adds a handmade touch, contrasting beautifully with the printed bird image. The opposing page features a piece of genuine vintage wallpaper, lending an authentic, time-worn texture to the journal. Adorning this wallpaper is a delicate lace pocket, embellished with a small paper flower, both holding antique cards that further enhance the sense of history and secret treasures.
This spread is a harmonious blend of old-world charm and natural beauty. The left page is ingeniously created using authentic old sheet music, providing a wonderful textural and visual backdrop. A Graphics Fairy bird printable takes center stage, its delicate form seemingly fluttering amidst the musical notes. I fashioned a unique pocket from a vine-like trim, a subtle nod to the garden theme, and filled it with a carefully selected antique card. The opposite page reveals a truly special piece: a hand drawing from a very old sketchbook. Its layout strikingly resembled a garden design, making it an irresistible inclusion that perfectly aligns with the journal’s overarching theme of a hidden country garden.
Here, a beautiful wallpaper background from The Graphics Fairy anchors the left page. Layered upon this is a pocket crafted from old script paper, its elegant penmanship adding a scholarly touch, and holding a beautiful antique floral card. The opposing page offers a fascinating contrast. This paper, which I believe was originally intended as wrapping paper, features various scripts interwoven with subtle flecks of gold. The shimmering gold accents catch the light, adding a touch of unexpected luxury and intrigue to the journal’s rustic garden feel, making it an ideal canvas for journaling or adding further ephemera.
The Heart of the Garden: A Source of Inspiration
This particular spread holds a special place in my heart and is quite possibly my favorite in the entire journal. The central image of the girls, sourced from The Graphics Fairy’s Flower Children bundle, was the primary inspiration that sparked the entire concept for this secret garden journal. Their innocent presence amidst the foliage perfectly encapsulates the charm and mystery I aimed to capture. To highlight this beautiful image, I created an ornate frame encircled by a delicate leaf trim, further drawing the eye to the scene. In the top right corner, a touch of stenciling with texture paste adds subtle dimension and artistic flair. The page to the left, a specially treated napkin, offers a unique and soft tactile element, enhancing the journal’s multi-sensory experience.
Continuing our journey, this page showcases one of The Graphics Fairy’s fantastic collage pages, providing an instant foundation of intricate detail. Upon this, I’ve added a soft lace tuck spot, offering a delicate hiding place for small notes or ephemera. An embossed frame beautifully holds the image of a sweet little girl, her gentle expression adding a touch of innocence and wonder to the overall composition. The combination of textures and imagery creates a rich, layered aesthetic, characteristic of authentic junk journaling.
At the very heart of this signature lies a stunning creation from The Graphics Fairy’s Chateau Life bundle, offering a glimpse into opulent historical interiors. A journaling card, perfectly sized for personal reflections, is derived from the exquisite Heritage Wallpaper bundle, providing a subtle pattern and texture. The elegant young lady gracing this spread is a personal creation, though a very similar image can be found within The Graphics Fairy’s captivating Coffee & Cream Ephemera bundle. Her presence adds a touch of vintage sophistication, inviting thoughts of elegant gatherings in grand gardens.
The layout of this engaging page is skillfully derived from The Graphics Fairy’s Tattered Treasures bundle, providing a wonderful aged aesthetic. An antique lace pocket, delicately adorned with a ribbon, adds a touch of feminine charm. At the top, a charming handmade fabric snippet, a lovely acquisition from another talented journal maker, adds a unique, collaborative element. The pocket itself holds a fascinating collection: an antique card alongside an authentic French letter, inviting stories and imagination. The Graphics Fairy truly offers an incredible array of bundles with magnificent patterns, empowering creators to choose just the right motifs to bring their visions to life.
This spread beautifully marries natural history with tactile artistry. The left page originates from The Graphics Fairy’s Naturalist’s Library bundle, bringing the scientific elegance of botanical illustrations into the garden theme. On the right, a sheet of exquisite handmade paper, embedded with delicate flora inclusions, provides a unique organic texture. A pocket, meticulously crafted from various pieces of lace, adds another layer of intricate detail. This charming pocket securely holds a large antique journaling card, offering ample space for thoughts, musings, or even pressed flowers, further cementing the journal’s connection to nature and history.

This pocket is brimming with a delightful assortment of various antique ephemera, creating a rich visual and historical narrative. The page on the right transports us further back in time, crafted from an authentic 19th-century document. Each element here invites contemplation and discovery, perfect for a secret garden full of hidden stories.
