Discover the Magic: 12 Home Bloggers’ Enchanting Christmas Candlelight House Tours
As the festive season wraps around us, it seems almost unbelievable that we’ve arrived at another cherished Christmas Candlelight Tour day. This annual tradition offers a unique glimpse into homes bathed in the soft, enchanting glow of twinkling lights and flickering candles, transforming familiar spaces into serene winter wonderlands.

Every year, just before I log off to fully immerse myself in the joy of the holidays with my loved ones, I reunite with my dear blogging friend, Rachel from Maison de Pax. Together, we embark on a peaceful journey, inviting you to virtually stroll through our homes at night, where every corner is set aglow by the gentle radiance of candles and the sparkle of fairy lights. It’s a moment of calm, a breath of fresh air amidst the often-frenzied holiday preparations.
If you’re joining us from Courtney’s absolutely stunning home at French Country Cottage, a warm and heartfelt welcome to our little corner of holiday enchantment! We’re thrilled to have you here.

Embracing the Quiet Magic of Christmas Nights
Whether you choose to photograph your home illuminated at night or simply savor the moment for yourself, I sincerely hope you take a few precious minutes to experience this quiet magic. There’s an undeniable grounding effect in switching off all screens, dimming the harsh overhead lights, putting on some soft Christmas music, and simply walking through your beautifully decorated home in the hushed quiet of night while everyone else is fast asleep. It’s a profound way to connect with the true spirit of the season, far from any distractions.

This holiday season, for all its undeniable fun and excitement, can often feel incredibly overwhelming. If I’m not careful, the relentless pressure of social events, gift lists, and never-ending tasks can easily consume me. That’s why, in the final days leading up to Christmas Eve, I make a conscious effort to set aside the to-do list and remind myself: “Whatever task didn’t get finished in time, it’s truly okay. I choose to be thankful and present right here, right now.” This practice helps recenter my focus on what truly matters.

Releasing the Pressure: A Message for Holiday Heroes
It’s so remarkably easy to heap immense pressure upon ourselves during Christmas. As a child, I vividly remember feeling the pure magic in every decoration, every gift, every special meal, and every family tradition. I absolutely lived for it. Now, as an adult, I understand that much of that magic was meticulously crafted and brought to life by my incredible mom. Moms, indeed, are the true rockstars of Christmas!

If you’re a parent, especially a mom, currently facing a seemingly mile-long holiday to-do list, please know this profound truth: you are more than enough. You deserve moments to breathe, to rest, and to simply be. Because, let’s be honest, it’s been a challenging year – in fact, it’s been a challenging couple of years for many of us, demanding resilience and strength we didn’t know we had.

In the spirit of embracing genuine holiday peace, remember that it’s perfectly alright to order takeout when your energy reserves are depleted. It’s acceptable if your home isn’t absolutely spotless or adorned with Pinterest-perfect decorations. And yes, it’s perfectly fine to adapt or even let go of some long-standing family traditions if it means preserving your sanity and joy. The most valuable gift you can give yourself and your loved ones this season is your presence, not your perfection.

As we celebrate the Prince of Peace, let’s truly make “peace” the central theme of our holiday celebrations. This means extending grace not only to others but, crucially, to ourselves. Release the need for everything to be flawless and instead, invite serenity into your home and heart.

I have a strong suspicion that the true spirit of Christmas would much rather we embody the quiet contemplation of Mary than the bustling, anxious preparations of Martha. It encourages us to choose moments of stopping, listening, and being present over tirelessly preparing and working ourselves to exhaustion. This shift in perspective can transform a stressful holiday into a truly sacred one.

It’s vital to allow ourselves to take that deep, calming breath and affirm: “I have done enough. I deserve to rest, to savor, and to enjoy this beautiful season.” This self-compassion is not a luxury, but a necessity for a joyful and meaningful Christmas.

The Beauty of the “Wait”: Anticipation and Resilience
No matter what this Christmas season looks like for you, and regardless of the challenges your year may have brought, my deepest wish is that you find that profound sense of peace. I hope you grant yourself the grace to come as you are, without judgment or expectation, and embrace the season’s genuine spirit.

If there’s one profound lesson Christmas has imparted to me over the years, it’s that the “wait” is often the most beautiful and enriching part. We’ve all experienced long waits in life – waiting for life to feel “normal” again, waiting for a new job, a new baby, a new home, or a new chapter. In our minds, we often tell ourselves, “When I finally reach [this new thing], then I’ll truly be happy.”
But the waiting period itself—that unique season of anticipation and endurance—is what truly shapes us. It changes us, teaching us invaluable lessons that arriving at a new chapter in an instant never could. It builds character, fosters patience, and deepens our appreciation for what’s to come, making the eventual arrival even sweeter.

Perhaps Christmas itself offers us a small, yet profound, glimpse into this transformative power of waiting. To me, one of the absolute best aspects of Christmas is the building anticipation. It’s that thrilling excitement that keeps you awake on Christmas Eve, tossing and turning, knowing that wonderful things are just around the corner. It’s the joy of counting down the days until you see that single ‘1 day left’ on the calendar, a feeling of pure, childlike hope.

And you just *know* in your heart that it’s going to be the best Christmas ever. That’s the truly good stuff – the magic of anticipation. The waiting is, in fact, the best part of Christmas and of life itself, whether we consciously realize it or not. Especially over these past two challenging years, so many of us have experienced significant doses of loss, hurt, and profound moments of “waiting” – waiting for wounds to heal, for peace to return, for a chance to turn a new page, even if that new chapter looks drastically different from the one before.

Despite the hardships of the recent past, I hold onto an unwavering sense of hope. I can hardly wait to witness the good things that are just around the corner, ready to unfold. Tomorrow truly is a new day, brimming with potential. And I believe with all my heart that next year will be a truly *good* year, filled with new beginnings and renewed joy.

We’ve had to endure the difficult times of these past two years to truly appreciate and *get* to the good stuff. This entire home, in many ways, serves as a constant reminder of that journey. These rooms have witnessed so much joy and hold countless cherished memories, but none of it came without navigating through a lot of challenging, messy, and sometimes painful moments.

These very rooms have borne witness to our family at our lowest points. They’ve seen moments where we almost gave up, almost threw our hands up in despair and said, “There’s simply no way forward.” Yet, it was precisely that “hard stuff” – the struggles, the doubts, the perseverance – that ultimately made the “good stuff” possible. It paved the way for growth, resilience, and a deeper appreciation for joy.

It’s this journey through challenges that makes moments of gathering around the table with the people I love even more profoundly fulfilling. Every shared meal, every hearty laugh, every quiet conversation feels imbued with deeper meaning and gratitude, knowing the path we’ve walked to reach these cherished times.

Similarly, it makes moments of gathering around the twinkling Christmas tree with family even more precious and deeply worth it. The magic isn’t just in the lights and ornaments; it’s in the shared presence, the unspoken bonds, and the quiet comfort that comes from simply being together, celebrating how far we’ve come.

Achieving this level of contentment took a lot of waiting, a lot of enduring challenging situations, and a conscious choice to release the things that disrupted our peace. There will never be a perfectly flawless home, a perpetually perfect family, an entirely perfect year, or a quintessential perfect Christmas – and that profound realization is liberating. It allows us to embrace the beauty in imperfection.
I distinctly remember my and Robert’s very first Christmas together, nestled in our tiny apartment that we could barely afford to rent. As we sat in our small living room, watching “It’s a Wonderful Life” beside our old, secondhand Christmas tree – with only half of its lights working and adorned with an eclectic mix of thrifted ornaments – I recall even then feeling an overwhelming sense of gratitude. It wasn’t about the superficial “perfect” Christmas, but about the profound connection.
(Just look at this old photo I unearthed of that first tree! It brings back so many memories.)

Because in that moment, it wasn’t about achieving a picture-perfect holiday. Everything I truly needed was right there beside me: love, companionship, and a sense of belonging. I sometimes lose sight of that fundamental truth when this busy season rolls around each year, but that profound moment with our very first tree, and its powerful reminder about what’s genuinely important, always comes back to anchor me.

Ultimately, perfection is not a pursuit worth our time or energy; peace, however, is. The pursuit of peace enriches our lives and the lives of those around us far more than any fleeting ideal of flawlessness ever could.

So, this Christmas, I am consciously setting aside my Martha-like tendencies – the urge to constantly do, to serve, to prepare – and striving to be more like Mary. I am choosing tranquility over endless toil, presence over frantic production. I recognize that I have already done enough, because He, in His infinite grace, has already done everything I could ever possibly need.

Sharing the Gift of Peace and Hope
Whatever this year has brought your way, my dear friends, I genuinely hope you are able to deeply feel the precious gift of peace more than anything else. Beyond the decorations and gifts, may you find profound calm and contentment.
I also hope you’re able to offer sincere words of kindness and encouragement to that busy cashier at the grocery store who might truly need it today. Consider dropping by a local community pantry to give a little extra to those who have less, spreading warmth and generosity. Most importantly, I hope you can give a little piece of your heart, because there is truly no greater gift to share than that of compassion and genuine human connection.

There is so much goodness and so many beautiful moments awaiting us ahead, as long as we hold onto hope. Hope is the guiding star that illuminates our path forward, even through the darkest nights.

Wishing you and yours ALL the merriest blessings this Christmas season! I am truly and profoundly thankful for *you*, for being a part of this community, and for sharing in these moments of reflection and celebration.

“Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.” – Romans 15:13 (NIV)
