Stunning Kitchen Transformation: The Allure of Sherwin Williams Billiard Green Cabinets
Every now and then, a home renovation project unfolds with such perfect alignment to our initial vision that it feels truly miraculous. For Robert and me, our kitchen refresh, centered around the bold choice of green cabinets, has been precisely that. From the very first mood board session, we envisioned a space that would be anything but ordinary, and the outcome has exceeded our highest hopes. Our kitchen is now a vibrant testament to the power of color and thoughtful design, proving that big impact doesn’t always require a big budget.
I am officially, and utterly, smitten with our Sherwin Williams Billiard Green lower cabinets. This rich, deep hue has imbued our kitchen with an undeniable sense of character and sophistication, transforming it into a space that feels both modern and timeless.

The Unveiling: A Glimpse into Our Transformed Kitchen
A quick note on these initial photos: please pardon the somewhat erratic lighting and the subtle purply/teal casts. In my eagerness to capture the magic, I went into full “photography ninja” mode just as the sun began to rise. I wanted to share these first glimpses with all of you before our electrician arrived for the next crucial phase of this ongoing kitchen refresh. While these snapshots truly don’t do the Billiard Green justice in terms of its rich depth and true color, rest assured, I’ll be sharing more professional images in optimal lighting very soon. We’ve already made even more exciting changes since these photos were taken, and I can’t wait to reveal them!

Our Kitchen’s Journey: A Before & After Perspective
It’s always amazing to look back and see how far we’ve come. This image showcases our kitchen after the installation of the faux pressed tin backsplash and the initial coat of wall paint, but before the green cabinet magic. Witnessing this progression truly underscores the transformative power of color and texture in a space, even before the main act of painting the cabinets.

This particular project is a carefully planned “refresh” designed to sustain us until we undertake a full-scale kitchen gut renovation, complete with a layout overhaul. Consequently, our primary tools for this phase have been strategic paint choices, updated hardware, and improved lighting. It’s truly remarkable how these three seemingly simple elements can collectively generate such a profound and impactful transformation in any given space. The strategic application of color, coupled with modern fixtures, has breathed entirely new life into our kitchen, demonstrating that significant changes don’t always require tearing down walls.
Choosing the Perfect Shade of Green: Sherwin Williams Billiard Green
If you followed my previous posts, you’ll know that selecting the ideal green for our lower cabinets was no trivial task. I meticulously considered a vast array of options, narrowing down 12 different green paint colors before making our final decision. The specific nuances of each shade were critical, as we needed a color that would not only stand out but also harmonize perfectly with our existing leathered granite countertops, which possess a subtle, almost imperceptible green tint. Sherwin Williams Billiard Green emerged as the clear winner, striking that perfect balance between boldness and understated elegance.
Beyond its perfect pairing with our granite, the choice of a deep green was a serendipitous win for another reason: deep green cabinets are currently one of the hottest trends in interior design. This means our kitchen refresh is not only personally satisfying but also perfectly aligned with contemporary aesthetics. I adore how Billiard Green presents a modern, sophisticated aesthetic while retaining the versatility to complement traditional styles. It’s a color that makes a statement without being overwhelming, offering a fresh take on classic kitchen design.
The Power Duo: Billiard Green and Benjamin Moore Simply White
While we were immersed in the cabinet painting process, we also addressed the upper cabinets. Their original white finish had, over time, developed a yellowed appearance due to age and exposure. To rejuvenate them and create a crisp, clean contrast with the new green lowers, we opted for Benjamin Moore Simply White. This decision was pivotal in achieving the bright, airy feel we desired for the upper half of the kitchen, preventing any visual heaviness. For those inspired to tackle a similar project, our comprehensive guide to painting kitchen cabinets like a pro is an invaluable resource. In short, when it comes to cabinet paint, Benjamin Moore Advance paint is, in our experience, the most legitimate and durable choice available on the market.

Embracing High Contrast for High Style
Our kitchen is now dramatically less “vanilla” and infused with a captivating sense of drama. I love how this refreshed space seamlessly integrates with the high-contrast aesthetic that defines the rest of our home. For the past year, “dark darks and bright whites” has been my absolute design mantra. This powerful combination consistently elevates a space, making it appear high-end and luxurious, often with nothing more than the strategic application of paint. It’s an accessible yet incredibly effective design principle that delivers stunning visual impact without breaking the bank, transforming ordinary rooms into extraordinary showcases of style.

The Finishing Touches: Aged Brass Hardware
Initially, I had every intention of spray painting our existing cabinet knobs and pulls to save a bit of money. I even conducted extensive experiments with four different brass/gold spray paint colors, hoping to save around $75. Unfortunately, the results were consistently disappointing; every attempt yielded a glittery, rather odd finish that simply didn’t meet our aesthetic standards. This experience reaffirmed that sometimes, an investment in quality is truly worthwhile, especially for high-touch elements like hardware.
Ultimately, I decided to invest in this pack of aged brass pulls and this pack of matching aged brass knobs. This choice proved to be absolutely worth every penny. Not only do these pieces exude a sophisticated elegance, but they also perfectly complement our new lighting fixtures, which I’m excited to share in a future update. More importantly, this investment provides peace of mind, knowing that our hardware will withstand daily wear and tear without the risk of chipping spray paint. We’ve successfully installed the cup pulls, but we’re still eagerly awaiting the arrival of all the knobs. It’s been an interesting, albeit slightly challenging, experience opening cabinets without them! 😉

Budget-Friendly Brilliance: Our DIY Kitchen Refresh Cost Breakdown
One of the most satisfying aspects of this kitchen refresh is the incredible value we achieved through our DIY efforts. With the addition of the backsplash, the fresh coats of paint, and the stylish new hardware, our total cost for this significant transformation currently stands at an astonishing $340. This figure is truly amazing when you consider that simply hiring a professional to paint the cabinets alone would easily exceed $1,000. Our commitment to doing it ourselves not only saved us a substantial amount of money but also instilled a profound sense of pride and accomplishment in our home, proving that a dream kitchen doesn’t have to come with a nightmare price tag.
