Hello Everyone! A Glimpse into the Parisian Big Top
Hello Everyone! My name is Sam Poole, and I am incredibly excited to share with you my May Graphics Fairy design team project. This particular journal has been a dream of mine to create, blending the whimsical charm of the circus with the undeniable elegance of vintage Paris.
Roll up! Roll up! The Circus is in town! But not just any circus—this is the glorious, gas-lit spectacle of the Parisian circuses from the enchanting 1880s era. I’ve always harbored a desire to create a truly immersive circus-themed junk journal. However, this time, I wanted to infuse it with a very specific historical and cultural flair. My vision was to transport the viewer back to the bustling streets and grand tents of Paris during a period when the circus was a magnificent fusion of art, entertainment, and societal spectacle. This distinct focus allowed me to delve into the unique aesthetic and ambiance of French circuses from that bygone era, capturing their charm, elegance, and a touch of nostalgic romance.
Curating Vintage Elements for an Authentic Parisian Feel
My creative journey for this particular junk journal began with a deep dive into ‘The Dazzling Circus’ Bundle from The Graphics Fairy Premium Membership Site. The moment I saw these images, they immediately evoked a distinctly French aesthetic, resonating with the sophisticated yet vibrant energy of late 19th-century Parisian entertainment. I was particularly drawn to the bold, classic colors of reds and yellows present in the bundle, which are so characteristic of traditional circus imagery, but here, rendered with a vintage Parisian charm.
To truly layer on the French essence, I thoroughly enjoyed combining these striking circus images with various other exquisite pieces of French ephemera. The ‘Mini French Ephemera’ bundle proved to be an invaluable resource, offering a treasure trove of delicate papers, tickets, and fragments that beautifully complemented the circus theme. This layering technique allowed me to build rich, textured pages that feel authentically aged and deeply evocative.

I then digitally inserted these captivating images into vintage cabinet card frames, giving them the appearance of genuine, period-specific portraits.
