Valerie’s Inspiration: Crafting the Floral Portraits Junk Journal

Hello everyone, Valerie here! My latest creation, which I’ve proudly named FLORAL PORTRAITS, is the fourteenth addition to my ongoing Notation Series. This particular journal sprang from a deep well of inspiration drawn from the exquisite floral and album frame images available on The Graphics Fairy Premium Membership Site. My vision was to craft a small, intimate, album-style journal, where botanical beauty could intertwine seamlessly with spaces designed to house precious memories or evocative imagery.

Measuring a charming 4 x 6 inches, this journal is remarkably compact yet boasts a single signature with approximately 100 page sides, making it intentionally and delightfully chunky. This substantial feel adds to its vintage character, inviting tactile exploration. The front and back covers are a labor of love, meticulously collaged using an assortment of leftover and discarded cloth pieces, giving the journal a unique texture and a rich, history-laden aesthetic.

For the expandable closure, I chose a touch of timeless elegance: a vintage satin-covered button. This is thoughtfully paired with an elastic cord threaded through delicate eyelets, its ends carefully tied and beaded, allowing the journal to expand comfortably as more treasures are added within. My overarching aim was to create a piece that felt both nostalgic and functional, a miniature gallery where floral album frames could gracefully encase photographic images, complemented by a tapestry of botanical illustrations throughout its pages.
