To My Sister: An Alice In Wonderland Envelope Collection Explored

Hello everyone! Sheena here again from Luna Rozu. I am so excited to share my latest creation: an enchanting envelope set themed around ‘Alice in Wonderland.’ This theme has been a long-held dream of mine to work with, and I believe it truly shines in this project. My inspiration for this collection draws parallels to Charles Dodgson (Lewis Carroll) himself, who originally penned the tale for young Alice Liddell. In that spirit, I designed this deconstructed junk journal collection as a loving gift from an elder sister to her younger sibling, who holds a deep affection for this treasured story. This personal connection is why I lovingly titled the collection, To My Sister.

Creating a junk journal or any paper craft often begins with setting the right foundation. For this Alice in Wonderland journal, I focused on achieving a wonderfully textured, aged effect for the envelopes. I began by utilizing captivating images from The Graphics Fairy’s Alice In Wonderland bundle. To achieve a layered and distressed look, I printed these images in smaller versions – typically nine images per sheet of coffee-dyed A4 sized paper. Coffee-dying is a fantastic technique that instantly imparts a beautiful, antique patina to paper, perfect for vintage-inspired projects.

The next step in achieving that authentic junk journal aesthetic involved a bit of deliberate imperfection. Instead of neat cuts, I deliberately tore around the edges of the printed images, creating a wonderfully messy, organic border. Furthermore, I introduced slight, random tears along the edges of the images and the envelopes themselves. To enhance this aged effect and add depth, I meticulously inked these distressed edges. This combination of coffee-dying, tearing, and inking results in a tactile and visually rich texture that truly transports you to another era, making each element feel like a treasured antique found in a forgotten attic.

Crafting Your Own Enchanting Junk Journal Envelope Collection

The heart of this deconstructed junk journal lies in its exquisite envelope collection. These templates were instrumental in helping me construct these adorable envelopes, providing a solid foundation for my creative vision. They offer various shapes and sizes, ensuring you have the perfect base for any project.

To infuse these handmade envelopes with the distinct Alice in Wonderland theme, I seamlessly combined elements from multiple Graphics Fairy bundles. The captivating imagery, naturally, came from the Alice In Wonderland bundle, featuring iconic characters and scenes that instantly evoke the story. To add a layer of vintage sophistication and authenticity, I incorporated beautiful script brushes and ephemera from the Script Ephemera 2 bundle. The blending of these diverse elements allows for a rich, multi-layered aesthetic that is characteristic of high-quality junk journaling.

Filling Your Envelopes with Wonderland Wonders: Ephemera and Journaling Spaces

One of the most exciting aspects of a deconstructed junk journal is the delightful surprise hidden within each component. In this case, I filled each of the beautifully crafted envelopes with an array of exquisite printed ephemera. These aren’t just decorative elements; they serve a dual purpose, offering ample space on their backs for the final recipient to journal their thoughts, memories, or dreams. This interactive element transforms the collection from a static display into a living, evolving keepsake, much like Alice’s own ever-changing adventures.

The selection of ephemera was carefully curated to enhance the Alice in Wonderland theme while adding layers of vintage charm. I utilized a variety of collage sheets from several Graphics Fairy bundles, demonstrating the incredible versatility of their resources. Key bundles included, of course, the Alice In Wonderland collection, providing core thematic elements. To complement this, I drew upon the elegant designs from the French Ephemera and Transfers bundle, which adds a touch of classic European sophistication. Additionally, the vibrant and whimsical elements from the Spring has Sprung bundle introduced a breath of fresh, playful imagery, perfectly echoing the fantastical gardens of Wonderland.

A particularly charming detail of this collection is the inclusion of playing cards, a direct nod to the iconic Queen of Hearts and her card soldiers. To give these cards an antique, luxurious feel, I printed them on sturdy kraft paper, which provides a lovely rustic base. Following the theme of distressing, I carefully inked their edges to create an aged appearance. The final, exquisite touch was painting the edges with shimmering gold acrylic paint. This small detail elevates the playing cards, transforming them into precious, gilded ephemera that truly captures the magic and slightly eccentric grandeur of Alice’s adventures.

Weaving Narratives: Alice in Wonderland Junk Journal with Vintage Family Photos

Beyond the whimsical characters and fantastical settings, the true magic of this “To My Sister” collection lies in its ability to weave a deeper, personal narrative. To truly bring the underlying story of family and connection to life, I meticulously sourced Victorian family photos from The Graphics Fairy’s extensive archives. I primarily used images from both the Antique Portraits bundle and the Antique Portraits 2 bundle. These bundles are treasure troves of beautiful, historical photographs that instantly add a sense of history and sentimentality to any project.

My search led me to a particularly darling little photo featuring a mother with her children, including two little girls. What made this photograph truly perfect for the “Alice in Wonderland” theme was the serendipitous detail of one of the girls holding a white bunny! This image perfectly encapsulated the spirit of Alice and her beloved White Rabbit, adding an unexpected layer of charm and direct thematic relevance. It felt like a discovery straight out of Wonderland itself, aligning perfectly with the narrative of a beloved younger sister.

Further enhancing the heartfelt “To My Sister” theme, I discovered an incredibly fitting piece of ephemera within the Script Ephemera 2 bundle: a vintage letter bearing the title ‘To my Sister.’ The moment I saw it, I knew it was meant to be part of this collection. How absolutely perfect is that?! This piece of ephemera not only reinforced the project’s title but also added an authentic, personal touch, making the entire collection feel like a deeply cherished heirloom, passed down through generations. These thoughtful additions transform the junk journal from a mere craft into a profound piece of art that tells a story and evokes powerful emotions.
