Greetings everyone! I’m Alessandra from Paper Art Alessandra, and I’m delighted to present my latest design team project: a vintage Christmas junk journal. This particular piece marks a special milestone for me, as it’s the very first Christmas journal I’ve ever created, and it certainly diverges from my usual style! My primary goal was to infuse it with abundant festivity while maintaining an authentic, old-timey flair that resonates with cherished holiday memories. To achieve this distinctive aesthetic, I drew upon a rich tapestry of images sourced from numerous diverse kits within The Graphics Fairy Premium Membership Site. The core palette revolved around traditional seasonal red and green, but I purposefully introduced lavish touches of gold and delightful pops of blue to add depth and unexpected elegance. I especially enjoyed incorporating charming imagery of Santa Claus, playful animals, and joyful children, all of which evoke the heartwarming essence of classic Christmas celebrations.

The foundation of this journal is truly unique: its cover is meticulously crafted from an authentic antique French book dating back to the 1800s. The inherent blend of deep red, shimmering gold, and rich black from the original book provided an exquisite starting point. To enhance its vintage allure and structural integrity, I fashioned a new spine using delicate vintage lace, elegantly bordered with a golden trim, creating a truly luxurious and durable finish. This commitment to using genuine antique elements, combined with beautifully curated digital imagery, allowed me to craft a journal that feels both deeply historical and lovingly handmade.

The heart of the journal, the center spread, unfolds with a serene and dreamlike quality. I chose the elegant Blue Endpapers Painted as the tranquil background, which I then meticulously enhanced with a gesso texture to artfully mimic freshly fallen snow. This tactile element adds a beautiful, soft dimension to the page. Across this frosty landscape, I hand-painted delicate golden stars, creating a celestial touch that sparkles with warmth. The most captivating feature here are two lovely vintage-looking images of little girls, imbued with a timeless innocence. These charming figures are delicately strung with golden thread, allowing them to be playfully moved around, almost as if they are whimsical puppets dancing across the snowy scene. On the right-hand page, another enchanting tuck spot is presented, this one fashioned from a captivating vintage Christmas butterfly image, symbolizing transformation and delicate beauty amidst the winter scene.
