Greetings everyone! My name is Emily Oliver, and you can find my creative work under pinkpaper44. This month, I am incredibly excited to introduce my latest junk journal creation, aptly named “Lumberjack.” My primary inspiration for this project was a strong desire to explore the classic lumberjack plaid theme, seamlessly blended with a charming “splash of winter” to capture the cozy and rustic essence of the season. This fusion allowed me to create a journal that feels both rugged and warmly inviting, perfect for documenting winter memories or simply enjoying the aesthetic.

The very foundation of this journal, its cover, drew its inspiration from a beautiful picture frame I once encountered, which was elegantly constructed from an array of carefully arranged wood slices. To recreate this organic, textured look, I meticulously glued genuine wood slices onto a sturdy piece of chipboard, forming a durable and visually striking front. Complementing this rustic cover, I crafted a unique, curved spine using a piece of fabric that I personally hand-painted. This bespoke fabric, featuring subtle earthy tones and textures, perfectly ties into the overall “Lumberjack” aesthetic, ensuring a cohesive and authentic handmade feel from cover to cover. On one particular page, I meticulously crafted a functional yet aesthetically pleasing “tuck spot.” This charming feature is adorned with a small fabric swatch, adding a delightful tactile element and a touch of mixed media interest. Throughout the entire journal, I engaged in a rich process of layering various elements, including delightful paper dolls, vintage-inspired labels, and an abundance of charming greenery. This meticulous collaging was instrumental in crafting a diverse array of interactive features, such as intricate tags, functional pockets, and cleverly concealed tuck spots.
